Drawing on location has been a part of my practice for 42 years. I have always found that drawing rather then taking photographs when travelling provides a deeper and richer way of understanding the world. Because my larger scale paintings are created from my memories, this practice of drawing what I see and where I have been gives my formal paintings greater depth and authenticity regarding lighting, settings, objects and people. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada riding the the subway has been a consistent experience my entire life. In my city the train is fondly referred to as riding the Rocket or sometimes the Red Rocket, a reference to the colour red, the transits corporate colour. In this section you will see the drawings that I have done while riding the train.
